About Us

Marden is an historic Kentish Wealden village that grew from “Meredenne” a place where royal pigs were fattened in the Middle Ages.

The village has many ancient Wealden buildings as well as the 12th century Parish Church, St Michael’s and All Angels. In 2008, the Marden History Group established a Heritage Centre, located in the village library.

On 1st April 2009 a public meeting was held which enthusiastically endorsed the idea of establishing the Friends of Marden’s Heritage to help raise funds to secure the heritage of the village, in particular by:

  • Supporting the work of the Marden History Group & Heritage Centre
  • Conserving the fabric of the Church
  • Our current project is the restoration and repair of the stained glass windows at St Michael’s and All Angels

The Friends of Marden’s Heritage is now accepted as a charity by HM Revenue & Customs for tax purposes. The committee includes representatives of both the Heritage Centre and the Parochial Church Council, but is independent of both. Its role is to organise fundraising events and promote membership of the Friends.
